Olympia would make a great tourist denoisatitn. It already has two extraordinary landmarks: The Capitol and the Old Brewhouse. Other attractive features are Capitol Lake, Heritage Park, the Farmers Market, Percival Landing, and an authentic downtown area. What's missing first and foremost is the will of the city to attract visitors. Anyone who's ever been to SeaTac airport is familiar with the racks of tourist brochures throughout the terminal, advertising Mt. St Helens, Leavenworth, Northwest Treck, Hood Canal, Tacoma attractions, etc. Even little Centralia has a visitor information brochure, but Olympia, Washington's capitol city, does not. Here Olympia has so much potential, yet it seems to be keeping its head down in an attempt to avoid the interest of visitors.Once the will is there, a few improvement would go a long way, such as a centralized parking facility, easy to read visitor maps, a tourist information center and some ideas to tie it all together. For example: Why not coordinate the Downtown for the Holidays festivities with the Lighted Ships Parade? It would be worthwhile for out-of-town visitors to come to Olympia to spend the day starting out at the Farmer's Market, then take part in the holiday festivities centered around Sylvester Park, have dinner at a local restaurant and finally enjoy the lighted boats passing by Percival Landing. If I could wave a magic wand, I would have at least one downtown street closed off to traffic, creating a walkable street with room for outdoor restaurants and shop displays, and for kids to run and play. I would have a cafe on the shores of Capitol Lake near the parking lot, so the hundreds of people who walk, stroll and run around the lake every day, can have a place to finish off their activity and enjoy refreshments. A trolley running from the Capitol down to the Farmers Market would be lovely, and so would be kayak or pedal boat rentals along Percival Landing. Connecting Capitol Lake walkways all the way to Tumwater Falls Park would be great, too, giving visitors access to the Old Brewhouse, which would be developed and inhabited by microbreweries, wine bars, cafes, spas, etc. I don't want to wear out my wand, but where there's a will, there's a way. +11Was this answer helpful?

I searched in Texas and didn’t find any except for a detention camp down by the border. We have plenty of homeless in our State though. We also have many shelters and church organizations to take care of the homeless. But as more and more people lose their jobs ( a Big Corporation is closing around here) due to the heavy hand of regulations and taxes, more will become homeless. I did find many paying the small fee in State Parks. Maybe a good plan would be to build big complexes suitable for housing or use some of the abandoned or closed business complexes to house these people. It would give people work and people down on their luck a place to live temporarily until we turn our country around. We send so much money to other countries and yet will not take care of our own. Shame on us!!
